Position Responsibilities:

The chief purpose of this position is to identify the factors related to high resistance to substance use. Factors increasing resistance may have the highest impact in maintaining or leading to health, as opposed to disease. This project uses novel methods developed for this study, and developmental data – from childhood to adulthood – already available and newly obtained in this project in a sample of twins.

This role will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, supporting data management and analysis of data. The research will focus on analysis of a longitudinal sample of twins. The project will include coordination of data across study groups and research team members. Additionally, this role will support management across a variety of projects, including data analysis, conference presentation of results, systematic literature reviews, coordinating/executing data sharing agreements, preparation of research reports, manuscript publication in peer-reviewed journals as well as non-traditional venues, grant development, meeting coordination, and developing results dissemination materials to graduate-level students and the public related to study results.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a health-related discipline such as Epidemiology, Public Health; or a health-related focus such as health administration, health psychology, translational research) with demonstrated prior experience in:
  • The analysis of population-based substance use data
  • Demonstrated data analysis experience in SAS, R, SPSS, STATA, or equivalent statistical software
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated data management experience
  • Ability to conduct and prioritize multiple competing tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • PhD in a health-related discipline such as Epidemiology, Public Health; or a health-related focus such as health administration, health psychology, translational research).
  • Experiential learning through lived experiences and/or professional service that informs worldviews and/or perspectives about substance use resistance, to include race, age, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and disability.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience writing for research grants in epidemiological research.
  • Experience in the management and analysis of twin or longitudinal data.

This is a restricted position with no set end date and continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
