The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Public Health, Bureau of Family Health is seeking a Maternal Child Health Epidemiologist to join our team!


We are recruiting a senior epidemiologist to support the Maternal and Reproductive Health Section. This individual will work with the maternal health and family planning programs to conduct data analyses, match data sets, develop reports and provide expertise to strategic planning and program planning efforts. This individual will be responsible for writing reports to Iowa Medicaid and the Iowa Legislature on maternal and reproductive health outcomes and will provide support Iowa’s Maternal Mortality Review Committee and Statewide Perinatal Care Program. 


Job duties include: 

  • Conducting data analyses on complex data sets including matching vital records birth certificate data with Medicaid paid claims; 
  • Develop reports, presentations and data briefs based on statistical analyses as required by HHS leadership, the state legislature, federal funders and other external partners; 
  • Disseminate data and information to HHS leadership, statewide partners, internal HHS staff and members of the public; 
  • Responds to requests for maternal and reproductive health related data; and 
  • Collaborates with internal and external program staff and stakeholders to provide expertise based on data findings and results of data analyses.

Selectives

185 Epidemiology:

6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in epidemiology, which involves:

  • The surveillance for respiratory diseases, vector-born diseases, enteric diseases, antimicrobial-resistant agents, or other infectious or non-infectious diseases 
  • The development of protocols and procedures for data collection and analysis, ongoing analysis of data using a variety of databases and statistical analysis programs The development and dissemination of written reports, graphs, tables, etc

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) All of the following (a and b): (Attach unofficial transcript for coursework verification)
a. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in public health with at least two courses related to the principles and practice of epidemiology; and
b. Six years of experience in applied epidemiology in an infectious, noninfectious, or chronic diseases; environmental poisonings or conditions; injury prevention; or a substance misuse related epidemiology program.

2) All of the following (a and b):
a. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate’s degree in epidemiology; and
b. Three years of experience in applied epidemiology in an infectious, noninfectious, or chronic diseases; environmental poisonings or conditions; injury prevention; or a substance misuse related epidemiology program.

3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes five years of full-time work as an Epidemiologist.
