This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to shape Louisiana’s response to STI, HIV, and viral hepatitis through statewide disease surveillance and data-driven public health action. The position oversees high-impact surveillance systems that inform prevention strategies, outbreak response, and healthcare planning for thousands of individuals each year. Leading a specialized team, this manager ensures the integrity, confidentiality, and effective use of complex surveillance data while collaborating with partners across public health programs and meeting critical CDC reporting requirements. Minimum Qualifications

A master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biology, nursing, physical, behavioral, natural, or veterinary sciences plus four years of experience in epidemiology; OR

A doctorate degree in epidemiology plus two years of experience in epidemiology.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

Surveillance Management 

  • Provide administrative and programmatic oversight for all STI, HIV, and viral hepatitis surveillance dataactivities
  • Prepare grant proposals and monitor grant activities
  • Manage complex databases,ensure all data are electronically imported or manually enteredconduct quality assurance activities of data, develop and disseminate data reports, write data management and dissemination proceduresand collaborate with Information Technology staff to ensure that all data hardware and software systems are maintained for efficient operations and that all data are protected in a secure environment for confidentialitypurposes.

Administrative Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Participate in the STD/HIV/Hepatitis (SHHP) management meetings and programmatic meetings in which overall program goals are developedevaluatedand resources allocated as neededevaluate epidemiological data to develop policies and programs, based on current surveillance dataprovide support to SHHP Director and Deputy Directors in the overall coordination of SHHP activities and responsibilities.
  • Develop and monitor budgets of state and federal resources that maintain the STD/HIV/Hepatitis surveillance program.
  • Delegate tasks to designated staffappropriately.

Surveillance Staff Supervision 

  • Directly supervises Surveillance Unit staff including epidemiologists, data analystsdata management staffdata entry stafffield investigators, case managers, and graduate-level research assistants who execute and support the activities of the surveillanceprogram.
  • Responsible for program staff of 25 persons, including direct supervision of 5 supervisors, who are responsible for coordinating major components of the statewide surveillance system (case ascertainment  and reporting data management/analysis, and the development of new surveillance systems andprojects).

All other Duties as Assigned 

  • In the event of a disaster or emergency in the State of Louisiana, you may be required to assist at a Special Needs Shelter (SNS), the Emergency Operation Command Center (POC), or other location where you are needed. The location may be outside of your normal work domicile and the duties may be outside of your normal work assignment.
