Title: Public Health Epidemiologist – Intermediate Level
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Duration: 13 Weeks Contract
Role Overview
This position serves as an intermediate-level epidemiologist responsible for conducting a wide range of investigative and analytical activities related to disease surveillance, detection, and prevention. The role involves working independently or as part of a team, providing epidemiologic expertise and supporting public health programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, analyze, and report on healthcare-associated infections and outbreak data
- Conduct routine epidemiologic functions including surveillance, data collection, and analysis
- Support epidemiologic investigations for communicable and chronic diseases, injuries, and other health conditions
- Apply findings to guide public health programs and recommend interventions
- Perform statistical analyses using appropriate analytical tools
- Develop reports and present findings using data visualization tools (graphs, charts, maps)
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive data
- Utilize databases and tracking systems for data management and analysis
- Monitor and evaluate data collection procedures to ensure quality control
- Assist in preparing reports, literature reviews, and program evaluations
- Provide scientific and technical guidance to public, private, and nonprofit health organizations
- Participate in committees, workgroups, and public health initiatives
- Serve as a scientific consultant for public health programs or projects
- Make independent decisions based on professional expertise and training
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or a science-related field with up to 2 years of relevant data analysis experience
OR
- Master’s degree in Public Health or a science-related field
Required Skills
- Strong experience in data analysis
- Proficient knowledge of epidemiological principles and statistical analysis methods
- Knowledge of public health program administration, concepts, and techniques
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with database management, data analysis, and program evaluation
- Understanding of research methods and epidemiologic investigation techniques
- Ability to apply critical thinking to identify and assess public health issues
- Basic understanding of disease surveillance systems and procedures
- Ability to analyze data and recommend evidence-based interventions
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse and inclusive environment
