JOB DESCRIPTION:
Carry out supervisory responsibility in accordance with policies, procedures, and applicable laws including interviewing, hiring and training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems; controls work production and activities, to include procedures, allocation of resources and ensuring deadlines are met.
Ensures accuracy in data interpretation and presentation of information.
Make presentations on public health issues and the health status of Wyandotte County. Accurately presents complex statistical methods and results appropriately to a variety of audiences and stakeholders.
Ensure data accuracy in quantitative and qualitative data collection, data sets, and data analysis, utilizing mixed methods when appropriate.
Be knowledgeable about the impact of socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, mental or physical ability, religion, gender or behaviors, attitudes, and values related to health.
Coordinates competing project timelines and expectations to meet deadlines; ensures timely identification of issues and coordinates as needed to keep projects on track.
Participates in statewide and community groups, committees, and coalitions, as necessary.
Assists with grant writing as needed.
Participate in staff meetings and Board of Health meetings as required.
Prepares for and responds to public health emergencies as required.
Maintain data sets and dashboards used by the organization, such as vital statistics and the chronic disease dashboard.
Complete data entry and patient information into the EMR system, EpiTrax system, and other electronic data collection platforms.
Complete contact investigations and collect disease investigations.
Comply with HIPAA requirements and regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Perform general responsibilities as part of the job requirements
Plans, conducts, and evaluates epidemiological studies, including the determination of methods, target populations, and data collection techniques required for the evaluation of disease patterns and health conditions in the community.
Design and implement survey instruments and procedures for quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.
Review findings of epidemiological investigations, interpret results, and assess risks of epidemics, communicable diseases, or environmental hazards; advise the Public Health Department of potential or active epidemic trends, characteristics, possible causation, and control procedures.
Analyzes technical epidemiological data and makes recommendations for prevention and/or interventions, using computerized data management tools to analyze standard data sets.
Develop and implement statistical analysis methodologies to evaluate the effectiveness of prevention strategies and/or interventions for improving population health.
Lead public health evaluations and investigations, such as outbreaks, clusters, and contact investigations, and conduct outreach initiatives among high-risk populations.
Attends and participates in State, national, and regional epidemiology groups, bringing evidence-based best practices to the attention of the County Health Officer and Public Health Director.
Conducts collaborative community health needs assessments and develops collaborative community health improvement plans.
Works both independently and within a collaborative team-oriented environment; contributes openly, disagrees respectfully, listens to the ideas of others, and works for consensus.
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and five years of related program experience or, an equivalent combination of education to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. A master’s degree in public health with an emphasis in epidemiology is preferred. Two years of supervisory and/or management experience preferred. Knowledge of diseases, disease trends, and disease data analysis and interpretation is expected. Knowledge of computer skills (Microsoft Office) and office equipment. Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to prioritize and manage work effectively and efficiently to accomplish tasks while multi-tasking and delivering friendly service
Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance. Must reside in Wyandotte County or be willing to relocate within 12 months.

Contact with potentially infectious clients in homes, apartments, work locations, and isolation locations.
Travel along with associated travel risks
Salary Range:
$30.51-$41.64/hr.
