Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience in epidemiology, healthcare analytics and reporting, health equity, nursing or public health; OR

A bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, biological sciences, behavioral sciences, health sciences or nursing plus one year of experience in epidemiology; OR

A master's degree in public health, epidemiology, biological sciences, behavioral sciences, health sciences or nursing.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Assists coordinating investigations of all human vectorborne disease cases, including cases of endemic and imported infections, to institute appropriate intervention and follow-up control measures; coordinates investigations of reportable parasitic vectorborne diseases, including completing relevant case report forms and acting as liaison with CDC for coordinating additional testing; performs activities related to enhanced disease surveillance for locally acquired and introduced diseases through syndromic surveillance follow-up and enhanced laboratory testing.
  • Responsible for maintenance of arbovirus and bioterrorism disease databases of all suspect and confirmed cases from various disease reporters, ensuring data quality and completeness.  Completes and reports on grant and cooperative agreement activities and deliverables.  
  • Provides guidance and technical assistance to regional staff (regional epidemiologists and disease intervention specialists) on bioterrorism and arboviral diseases. Participates in outbreak investigations and special studies in the assigned region.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with physicians and health care providers to enhance disease surveillance activities in the areas of case identification, disease reporting, and assures complete and accurate case reporting information.
  • Collaborates and facilitates with OPH laboratory staff on the determination of appropriate laboratory testing to be performed on individuals that have been diagnosed with or there is a suspect diagnosis of arboviral or bioterrorism diseases. Coordinates the collection and shipment of specimens.
  • Participates in various arboviral and bioterrorism surveillance activities and assists in outbreak investigations. Coordinates activities; acts as a liaison with federal response partners (i.e. DMORT, CDC), etc.
  • Monitors surveillance data for trends and clusters at local/regional levels; prepares reports for state and national databases.
  • Assists in coordinating and directing physician intervention, community education, and other health related activities.
