Epidemiology

Summary

The Epidemiology Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the daily functions of TB Prevention & Control division of the Public Health Department including investigating TB cases and suspecting and associating investigations which includes the identification and follow-up of all contacts e.g., skin test, x-ray, medical clinic appointments and ninety (90) day repeat TST’s.  Responsible for all high-risk screening activities along with other duties assigned by supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contacts investigation interview, works up testing and referrals for TB cases and suspects
  • Responsible for all paperwork related to contact investigation
  • Performs high risk screening activities
  • Locates, transports and medicates patients
  • Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Public Health Department as assigned or required
  • Performs all other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Must be able to stay organized and know how to prioritize the workload. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Competency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite. 
  • Advanced analytical skills.   
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and forms, equipment, methods and techniques used to provide counseling services
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public health education; pertinent federal, state, and local codes laws and regulations; communicable disease and how to protect themselves from disease process.
  • Understanding of filing system and maintaining a large changing database 
  • Ability to work without constant supervision

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in Public Health, Natural Science, or a related field, and two (2) full-time years of increasingly responsible disease counseling or prevention experience, required OR 
  • An Associate’s degree/LVN with four (4) full-time years of TB/STD/HIV experience required.  
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license.  


Preferred Requirements:

Spanish and English proficiency in oral and written communication preferred.
