This third-level specialist position provides epidemiologic expertise to the Bureau and Department for the
investigation and response to hazardous chemical exposures in Michigan. This includes statewide responsibility
for the design and application of complex epidemiologic methodologies to areas and populations with
environmental chemical exposure concerns, including study design and planning, policy and program
development, program evaluation, and technical expertise and training. In response to significant or suspected
exposures to toxic chemicals near sites of contamination, this position will lead the capture of relevant data and
statistics from existing literature, health registries and surveys as well design and implement protocols for
appropriate epidemiologic surveys or studies in these areas. All special epidemiologic data collection and
analysis projects related to sites of environmental contamination are designed, implemented and monitored by
this position.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a master's degree in epidemiology or public health, with a minimum of 8 semester (12 term) graduate-level hours in epidemiology and biostatistics courses.

Experience
Five years of professional experience as an Epidemiologist, including three years of experience equivalent to an Epidemiologist P11, two years equivalent to an Epidemiologist 12, or one year equivalent to an Epidemiologist Specialist 13.

NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 333 South Grand Avenue, Lansing, MI 48933. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered. Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.    



Employees will be provided computers to perform state work.  Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:

  • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
  • A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
  • Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
