Join the Pima County Health Department as a Public Health Program Specialist I! In this role, you will provide specialized data support for the Epidemiology program, including interpreting, coding, classifying, and entering information from various source documents, such as medical records, into data entry systems. This position is also responsible for responding to the general Epidemiology information line and triaging calls as needed.

Assists in organizing program activities, timelines, and resources to ensure smooth program execution;
Works collaboratively with program staff to carry out program objectives and deliverables;
Provides support in tracking program progress and maintaining documentation;
Participates in community outreach efforts and engagement activities to gather input to understand the needs of the community;
Supports the organization and facilitation of community meetings, workshops, and events;
Maintains program documentation, including progress reports, meeting minutes, and correspondence;
Provides administrative support to program managers and coordinators, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, and preparing materials;
Handles routine administrative tasks as required;
Stays informed about public health best practices and trends through ongoing learning and training opportunities;
Seeks opportunities for professional growth within the public health field.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED equivalent AND one year of experience in the Public Health program related field.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Minimum one (1) year experience working in public services.
Minimum one (1) year experience providing direct client services to diverse populations and cultures of diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
Minimum one (1) year experience in data collection and entry, client-interviewing techniques, and creating computer-generated reports.
Minimum two (2) years experience using computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite, electronic health records, and web-based applications.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
Supplemental Information:
Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.

Physical/Sensory Work Requirements: Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment. Constantly observes details at close range. Frequently remains at stationary position. Frequently moves about inside an office setting. Occasionally travels to other facility locations and events.
Working Conditions: The Public Health Program Specialist operates within a professional office setting, conducting desk-based tasks and attending meetings. This role can also operate within a clinic or mobile setting.
