The Utah DHHS Office of the Medical Examiner seeks an experienced senior level manager to administer two public-facing public health and bereavement programs. The first program is the Family Outreach program, which is responsible for conducting interviews of next-of-kin to better understand the circumstances that preceded a sudden and unexpected death. The Family Outreach program uses peer-level assessments to make appropriate referrals related to bereavement, post-traumatic stress, and other adverse outcomes. The second program is the Family Advocacy and Support program, which is responsible for making contact with next-of-kin in the hours or days following a sudden and unexpected death, informing the next-of-kin of with basic information, and then following up with family to offer support 4 to 8 weeks after the death. Built on a behavioral health workforce development framework, the Family Outreach and Family Advocacy and Support programs are staffed by advanced-level students.  The incumbent provides clinical supervision, recruitment, performance evaluation, and management for these program members, as well as management of escalated situations.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operations for the Family Outreach program
• Manage day-to-day operations for the Family Advocacy and Support program
• Recruit, train, manage, and supervise staff 
• Coordinates across programs at OME and at DHHS to ensure alignment of processes and goals
• Conduct professional development training for OME staff, in addition to direct staff
• Evaluate program efficacy, propose strategies for improvement, and implement changes
• Respond to escalated cases
• Provide clinical supervision to bachelor of social work and master of social work students
• Maintain existing university practicum partnerships and identify and develop new placement site opportunities.
• Keep accurate records of program activities and write reports that synthesize the data for easy understanding

Qualifications

• Must currently be a Clinical Social Worker (CSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a valid Utah license.
• Must have 5 or more years of management experience.
• Must have a working knowledge of bereavement care and clinical bereavement interventions.
• Must have a working knowledge of suicide prevention.
• Must have a working knowledge of drug overdose prevention.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
• Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
• Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
• The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
• The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
• Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
• Actively looking for ways to help people.
• Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
• The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
• The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
• The ability to identify and understand the speech of another person.
• The ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.

Other Necessary Requirements

• The ability to work in a medicolegal death investigation and forensic pathology environment.

Preference may be given to candidates who have:

• Experience in medicolegal death investigation or mortality related public health work
• Prior or current employment with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services
• Ability to travel in-state
• A Driver’s License
