Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Promotion, Public Health, Medical Technology, Health Sciences, or a health-related field

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Other Requirement

Within one month of hire, all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test

We Also Value

  • At least one year of experience working as a Communicable Disease Investigator for a local public health department or a state health agency

  • Experience interviewing and educating clients

  • Experience working with various socioeconomic groups

  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills

Job Contributions

  • Performs HAI investigations to determine disease origin and method of contraction through contact with physicians, hospitals, and healthcare providers per HAI protocols and processes

  • Interviews clients and gathers medical record information to obtain epidemiological information and determine contacts; may include conducting home or facility visits

  • Provides health education and guidance to reduce the spread of infection, including facility-level infection control and prevention

  • Serves as a liaison with internal and external partners to complete case investigation and contact follow-up activities

  • Maintains case documentation

  • Assists with HAI surveillance activities

  • Tracks and locates clients or contacts throughout Maricopa County who suffer from or were exposed to a communicable disease

  • Coordinates collection of specimens and submits samples for laboratory testing

  • Assists with investigation of other reportable conditions as needed

Working Conditions

  • Most work is performed in an office environment

  • Position may require travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles or private vehicles on County business

  • Must be able to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency

  • Must be able to work on-call periodically
