ANTICIPATED START DATE:  2 weeks after candidate identification

TRAVEL:  As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position


IHRC Inc. seeks a dedicated and experienced Epidemiologist IV to support our clients at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Viruses Division (CORVD). CORVD’s mission is to provide the health of people by preventing illness, disability and death from respiratory viruses through public health science and practice in the United States and globally. This position is needed for accomplishing CORVD’s mission. Epidemiologist IV will provide technical assistance to support regional capacity to conduct surveillance, detection, and response to events of public health significance. 


  • Participate in the day-to-day work of Global Respiratory Viruses Branch (GRVB), including conference calls, and meetings as necessary to further CORVD’s Global Health Surveillance goals.
  • Serve as a respiratory viral surveillance expert for GRVB, including supporting non-research and research projects and initiatives.
  • Serve as GRVB’s primary point-of-contact for collaboration with Ministry of Health partners in South and Central America, as well as other regions, as needed. 
  • Liaise with and provide technical support to Ministries of Health and external implementing partners with proposal development and review, activity planning and implementation, data analysis, scientific manuscript writing. 
  • Liaise with and provide technical support to internal United States Government partners such as embassy and CDC regional and country office staff. 
  • Develop and support protocols and guidance documents for respiratory viral surveillance; g. Provide strategic guidance on laboratory aspects of sentinel, universal, and event-based surveillance activities. 
  • Provide coordination of activities for South and Central America across GRVB teams 
  • Support the development and implementation of respiratory viral surveillance trainings, including but not limited to sentinel surveillance, event-based surveillance, universal surveillance, and RSV burden. 
  • Support public health emergency response actions both within and outside of the United States, as needed. 
  • Provide regular feedback and updates to GRVB leadership; l. Conduct all duties in a professional and diplomatic manner; m. Any additional duties, as requested.
  • Travel will be anticipated at 25-30% for this Task to provide technical support related to global activities and workshops.
Requirements
  • PhD with 10+ years’ experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Work experience in consultant, epidemiologist, medical epidemiologist, public health advisor, or related field (preferably in a public health setting.
  • Experience with clinical data.
  • Ability to work in a public health emergency response environment.
  • Ability to identify gaps in existing resources.
  • Ability to be flexible.
  • Interpersonal communication: telephone, email, and business etiquette.
  • Strong proofreading skill and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience working with CDC staff at multiple organizational levels.
  • Experience in facilitating quick turn-around for complex documents.

 Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English
