Job Summary:
An Epidemiologist directs studies and investigations of diseases in communities of Baltimore City. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive general supervision from an administrative superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
EDUCATION: Have a master's degree from an accredited college or university in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics or a related field.
OR
NOTES EQUVALIENCY: Have equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of epidemiologic research methodology, epidemiologic data collection procedures, epidemiologic study design, descriptive and inferential statistics.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of the biomedical sciences and public health.
Knowledge of the objectives, scope, and functions of Federal, State and local health laws and regulations that apply to public health.
Knowledge of interviewing and investigating techniques used in the epidemiology of human disease, of the methods and practices for the control of human disease and of the causes and sources of contagion of communicable human disease.
Ability to apply advanced epidemiologic principles and methods in analysis of health data.
Ability to direct epidemiologic investigations or studies.
Ability to understand technical and administrative problems and constraints involved in formulating disease control or prevention recommendations.
Ability to evaluate and interpret epidemiological and statistical data.
Ability to prepare and present reports and recommendations clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to exercise initiative, imagination, resourcefulness and sound judgement.
Background Check
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointments to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Probation
All candidates, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
Eligibility
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education Accreditation
Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
