The Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) seeks an Epidemiologist to work with the Chief Epidemiologist, and the Local Health Improvement Coalition.
Founded in 1793, BCHD is the oldest health department in the country, with over 800 employees and an annual budget of $208 million, that aims to protect health, eliminate disparities, and ensure the well-being of every resident of Baltimore through education, advocacy, and direct service delivery. BCHD's wide-ranging responsibilities include maternal and child health, youth wellness, school health, senior services, animal control, restaurant inspections, violence prevention, emergency preparedness, STI/HIV treatment, and acute and chronic disease prevention.
Job Summary:
The Epidemiologist will focus on statistical analysis, comprehensive data reporting, and mapping. The role involves meticulous data cleaning, validation, and statistical analysis using code-based software such as Stata and R. Additionally, it requires creating visualizations, maintaining interactive dashboards, and making maps using GIS (geographic information system) tools. Serving as the1.0 FTE Epidemiologist for the Local Health Improvement Coalition involves analyzing health outcomes, demographics, and social determinants of health trends pertinent to older adults, collaborating closely with staff and partners, and implementing monitoring and evaluation plans. The position includes active participation in public health preparedness and response activities, including serving as BCHD’s Infectious Disease Duty Officer approximately two weeks per year. If the candidate has advanced graduate training and/or experience in epidemiology, they may have the opportunity to supervise/mentor epidemiologists, research analysts, fellows, and interns, including Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) Applied Epidemiology Fellows. The Epidemiologist will work closely with the Chief Epidemiologist and leadership of the Local Health Improvement Coalition. They will report to the Chief Epidemiologist and the Director of the Local Health Improvement Coalition

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: A master’s degree with a focus in epidemiology.
AND
Experience: Have at least 2 years’ work experience in epidemiology in a public health agency.
