JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Director of Health and Human Services, is responsible for studying patterns of disease and health conditions in the community.  Analyzes data to identify health risks, support outbreak investigations and inform evidence-based public health interventions to prevent disease and promote overall community health.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Collect, analyze and interpret primary and secondary data on disease incidence, prevalence and risk factors from multiple sources 
  • Monitor and report on local, regional, national and global health trends and outbreaks
  • Collaborate with all Department Divisions to develop data-driven strategies and programs to prevent outbreaks and improve health outcomes.
  • Recommend and support implementation of public health interventions.
  • Prepare and communicate data and findings, reports and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the Department’s research, evaluation and policy development efforts

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER ATTRIBUTES

•Thorough knowledge of public health principles, epidemiology and disease prevention.
•Ability to develop, implement and evaluate public health programs, policies and procedures.
•Strong analytical and statistical skills, including proficiency in epidemiologic methods and data analysis software (e.g. Excel, SPSS, R, SAS).
•Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports containing findings and recommendations.
•Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
•Highly organized, responsible, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
•Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
•Must be proficient Microsoft Office applications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a concentration in health and at least two (2) years of experience in a public/community health setting or Master of Business Administration with at least three (3) years of public health experience.

SCOPE OF EXAMINATION:    Candidates will be evaluated based on the information submitted in their application and any required supplemental materials. The City may also consider interviews, reference checks, and other assessments as part of the selection process.
